David, the son of this family, was Capt. David Barber of Revolutionary fame. There is considerable confusion regarding the date of his birth. The records of Hebron give but one David belonging to this family, and the date of his birth is recorded as Mar. 30, 1740. The Hebron records also give the marriage of David Barber to Lois Dutton. Other records give the date of birth of Capt. David, who married Lois Dutton, as Aug. 16 or 18, 1760, and since she was born in 1760, and if the tradition that he was a drummer boy in his father's company, is correct, the latter date of birth is by far the more probable one. The only reasonable explanation, therefore, is that the son David, b. Mar. 34 1740, must have died young and another son, born many years later, was given the same name. David Barber, Esq, had person sources.^3,4,5 He served in the military about 1776.
