Biography

Bathsheba Bourne was born on 11 November 1703 in Sandwich, Barnstable, Mass. William Newcomb and she were married in 1722 in Sandwich, Barnstable, Mass. Timothy Ruggels, Gen., and she were married on 18 September 1736. She died in March 1787 at age 83 in Hardwick, Worcester, Massachusetts.

Had as spouse both NEWCOMB and RUGGLES. Bathsheba Bourne had married William Newcomb and bore him eight children. He died April 1733, and she remarried September 18, Timothy Ruggles. They had a fairly volatile, yet prolific, marriage, and eventually, in the 1770's, he was stripped of his property and banished to Nova Scotia because of his politics. He took some of the children, I gather, but not all, and the Newcomb children were older than his anyway. Maybe some of them went, too. It would only have taken one. Given that the tavern was center for Tories, I would imagine more than one went. But Bathsheba took the opportunity to separate from her husband. She stayed behind. I thought I had a list of the Newcomb children, but I can't find it. Bathsheba Bourne had person sources.¹
