It is a tradition in the family that Nicholas Gentry and his brother Samuel Gentry were British soldiers, who came to America at the time of the Bacon Rebellion. British soldiers landed in Jamestown, Va., in January 1677 and were paid off and discharged in the fall of 1683 ; and the further fact that Nicholas Gentry and Samuel Gentry were land-owners of record in 1684, tends to corroborate the family tradition.
